Proud of Us

I think about children when I think of the future. And when they look back on 2020 they'll see how their parents and previous generations struggled to keep them safe and happier.

By Anna S. from Oakland in California

they just want to be proud of us

proud that we made it out

happy to know we didn’t kill each other on purpose

leave each other on purpose

infect each other when we were our worst and at our lowest

we raise the bar of what we can survive everyday

every time

this aint nothing new to us

our children will be proud of us

thats the default right?

we’ll tell them how hard we fought to make things right

and they’ll be the living elements to prove it all

living in a world much brighter healthier and most of all

they would not call each other out of their names or races

they would be kept swept off their feet by the changes we all created by staying put and creative

because we should be sheltered but never limited to the indoors

they would be proud of what we endured
